Edsel “Smitty” Smith, 91, Denmark, died Saturday evening, January 25, 2014, at home. Born on November 3, 1922, in Quincy, IL, he is the son of the late Jesse and Grace (Lomax) Smith. Smitty was drafted into the U.S. Army and faithfully served for 3½ years and was honorably discharged in December of 1945. Soon after returning from service, Smitty began his employment with Wisconsin Public Service and continued there until his retirement. He married Joyce Renier on June 26, 1948, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. He will be remembered as a hard worker and also as a wonderful gentleman to everyone, including his family.
Smitty is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce; three daughters, Kathy Cenefelt, Christy (Dwight) Kraszewski, and Linda (Perry) Bosetski; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Howard Bevard; and many nieces and nephews.
Also preceded in death by his step-father, Burton Beaver; one brother, Lt. Commander Ray (Betty) Smith; one sister, Arlene (Hubert) Brunette; one brother-in-law, Michael (Helen) Renier; and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Bevard.
Private family services were held at MALCORE (West) Funeral Home and he was laid to rest with full military honors in the Shine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
