Allan “Hap” Johnston 82 of Denmark WI. went to eternal life on Wednesday, Feb. 9 –2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Hap was born 6-3-39 in Green Bay, WI to the late James R. and Pauline (Beer) Johnston. He attended East High. On Jan 8-1960, he married the love of his life, Bonnie DeGroot, at St. Cyril Methodius Catholic Church in the town of Eaton.
Hap was employed at Mirro Corporation in Manitowoc for 40 years, where he built boats and worked in the factory. He retired from Mirro on January, 8th of 2002. Hap loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Hap was a man of many talents. He was a motorcycle enthusiasts and he loved to repair and improve anything and everything, with his arsenal of tools and a roll of duct tape. Hap never missed an opportunity to “wet a line” or add a treasure to his garage. Having on of something was good, but having a dozen was better.
Hap is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie, of 56 years, his son Dan “DJ”, Jen, Breezy, his daughter Lori, Brian, his grandsons Travis, Trevor, and Brandon, and very special friend Kim. He was the last sibling of the James R. Johnston clan; having been proceeded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. He has been lovingly reunited with his daughter Tammy and his dog Jack.
If Hap could offer one last parting thought, he would say “It’s the ride that counts”.
A special thank you to Bill and Cathy, Missy and Mark, and Brenda and John for being there for us.
A private service will be held at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
“Life is truly a ride. We’re all strapped in and no one can stop it. When the doctor slaps your behind, he’s ripping your ticket and away you go. As you make each passage from youth to adulthood to maturity, sometimes you put your arms up and scream, sometimes you just hang onto the bar in front of you. But the ride is the thing. I think the most you can hope for at the end of life is that your hair is messed up and you’re out of breath.”
