August D. Menghini

January 3, 1941 — December 6, 2024

August Duane Menghini entered eternal life December 6th, 2024, surrounded by his family at home. He was 83 years old. Auggie was born January 3rd, 1941, in Vulcan, Michigan to August and Evelyn (Jackamino) Menghini. He was raised in a large family with five siblings. He graduated from Iron River High School in 1960, then enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed in Kotzebue, Alaska and later Omaha, Nebraska during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After serving four years in the Air Force, Auggie returned home to Iron River, MI. He started dating Claudia Menghini and they were married shortly after on October 2, 1965. They raised three children in White Pine, MI where Auggie worked for White Pine Copper Range for almost 30 years. They later moved to Green Bay, WI to be closer to family.

Auggie lived life to its fullest and had many pursuits and hobbies. He had a green thumb and tended a beautiful flower and vegetable garden every summer. Auggie restored cars, loved to sketch and do woodworking. He also developed a love for martial arts, earning a second degree blackbelt in Shukokai Karate. He was very active in the church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a volunteer firefighter and a first responder for many years. Despite ongoing medical issues, Auggie maintained an active life, riding his bike, walking, swimming, and playing with grandkids. He was a regular at Titletown Fitness. He moved through the world with a smile on his face and you would always hear him whistling or humming. He was welcoming to everyone, whether it was at the Sauna he built in White Pine or the dinner table. He was a man of strong morals and values that he instilled into his family.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Claudia Menghini; his children Charlotte (Tyrone) Ross of Green Bay, WI, Becky Otts of Davenport, IA, Anthony (Patti) Menghini of San Diego, CA; brother, Terry (Sue) and sisters Carol and Elizabeth (Nyle); grandchildren Eric (Inés), Maggie (Beau), Ashley, Kaitlyn (Mitch), and Halle; and great grandchildren, Jalynn, Lainey, Logan, and Liam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Evelyn Menghini; his in-laws, Omar and Marion Horn; a sister, Sharon Trapasso; and a brother, Jeffery Menghini.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, December 12th at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, WI. Visitation will be at the cathedral from 9-11 am, followed by Mass at 11 am with Fr. Ryan Krueger officiating. Committal in Allouez Catholic Cemetery will be at 2:30 pm.
