Donald (Don) J. Roberts, 85, longtime resident of Green Bay passed away in the arms of the Lord surrounded by his loving family on March 31, 2017. Don was born February 4, 1932 to the late Lorraine Roberts Verheyden at home in Tonet, WI. Donald married Lucille (Lepak) on September 26, 1959, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Hofa Park, WI.
Don worked at Wheeler Cheese, Bay West Paper and retired from Red Owl Warehouse where he was a proud union member. He was a blood donor for many years which he enjoyed and was a 20 gallon donor. Volunteering at St. Vincent De Paul made him grateful to help others less fortunate. In Don’s younger years he loved to polka dance, camping, old cars, fishing, trivia, crossword puzzles, and ushering at church. He loved watching old westerns and scary movies. He enjoyed taking Sunday car rides exploring WI and often ended up at a casino playing the one armed bandit. Playing sheepshead and watching the Packers were his favorite pastimes. He always had a “Joke of the day” (and maybe a few more).
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Lucille, who was always at his side. Two loving daughters and their spouses: Pamela (Thomas) Gallenberger (De Pere, WI) and Paula (Ladd) Freitag (Rochester, MN). 7 grandchildren Courtney (Joseph) Tellijohn (Howard, WI) Lindsay (Bradley) Doherty (De Pere, WI) Amy Freitag (Rochester, MN) Casey Gallenberger (Berlin, WI) Zachary Gallenberger (De Pere, WI) Karen Freitag (River Falls, WI) and Lance Freitag (Rochester, MN). 4 great grandchildren, Lida, Liam, Violet and Henry.
Don is also survived by one sister, Sandra (Richard) Linskens, Wrightstown, WI and one sister in law, Mary Baumgartner, Las Vegas, NV and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Roberts Verheyden, father in law and mother in law Leo and Regina Lepak , two brothers in law and one sister in law, Jerry Vandehey, Hilary and Susie Bruss.
Friends may call at St. Jude Catholic Church 1420 Division St. Saturday April 8, from 9 am to 11 am. The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 am with Rev. Michael Thiel officiating. Burial of Donald’s remains will be at a later date at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Hofa Park, WI.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Donald’s name.
