James “Jim” Hunt passed away peacefully and unexpectedly at home on Thursday morning, August 22, 2024. Jim was born on June 21,1953 to Stanley and Marie (Frisch) Hunt, the youngest of three children. He graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1971. Jim married Vickie, the love of his life in 1982, becoming not only a husband but a loving father to Sara and Angie.
Jim had an innate ability to understand how things worked, to keep them running, and to fix them when needed. If something couldn’t be fixed, he would build it. Jim used his mechanical talents to establish Astro Hydraulics. He was a highly respected and successful businessman. Jim developed Parkinson’s Disease in the prime of his life and career. He retired from business ownership when Parkinson took away his ability to provide the highest of quality service to his longtime customers. Parkinson’s Disease did not stop Jim from using his knowledge and talents. Jim will be remembered as someone you could depend on with his quick willingness to roll up his sleeves and help anyone.
Jim was a strong leader in our family, supporting and shaping many of our lives. He was a kind and extraordinarily generous man, requiring no fanfare. He had a great sense of humor that was perfectly timed.
Jim had a quiet strength about him, participating in groundbreaking treatments, research and clinical trials with the goal of advancements in the treatments of Parkinson’s Disease. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Brennen and his Neurological Team at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for their years of care and guidance through Jim’s journey with Parkinson’s Disease. Memorials can be made to the Micheal J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Jim loved everything motors from classic cars, Harley Davidson motorcycles to tractors. He loved to drive them, fix them and spend hours in his garage tinkering.
Jim and Vickie spent weekends driving around the Midwest, especially fond of the Lake Superior area, in search of expanding their vast collections of antiques, unique pens, hand carved ducks and anything John Deere. He enjoyed a good book, classic western television shows, a strong cup of coffee, pizza, a hamburger & fries, chocolate, his weekly Friday fish fry at Marique’s Bar and 6:00 am Saturday breakfast with his friends, Dick and Donny.
Life once again shifted for Jim with the birth of his grandson, Cole. Cole is known in the family as the son Jim never had. Jim was extremely proud of his grandson, watching Cole play football and field sports for the Bayport HS Pirates, a Wisconsin Badger football player, being drafted into the NFL as a Green Bay Packer and onto the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jim is survived by his wife Vickie; his two daughters, Sara Kennedy and Angie (Tom) Van Lanen; grandson Cole (Samantha) Van Lanen; his sisters, Patricia Wagnitz (Steve) and Linda Olson; his in-laws, Dawn Murray, Maria (Jeff) Boll, Sandra Murray (Ernie) and Dale Seltzer. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
