John Paul Cleereman, 77, Green Bay, passed away late Sunday evening, May 14, 2023, at a local hospital. Born January 20, 1946, in Green Bay, he is the son of the late Henry B. and Hildeguarde (Ast) Cleereman. John is a 1964 graduate of Premontre High School. In September of the same year, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving for three years before receiving an honorable discharge. Upon his return home he attended St. Norbert College for three years. While at St. Norbert he met the love of his life, Linda Vandermuse, and they were married on April 15, 1972. John was employed as a lab technician with Procter and Gamble for 21 years. He then worked for the next 21 and half years as a cheese cutter beginning at Green Bay Cheese, and retiring from Saputo Cheese. It was at this time that he began his favorite job, working as a crossing guard for the City of Green Bay and enjoying the energy of the children. John and Linda were long-time active members of First United Church of Christ, where John served as past president, usher, greeter, choir member, and the couple served as long time Sunday school teachers. In his younger days he was active in music theater at St. Norbert College, as an actor/singer, backstage hand, and he also preformed and served as a stage manager with the Green Bay Community Theater.
John was an active Packer and Brewer fan along with his passion for TCU sports and the De Pere Redbirds. He always enjoyed playing Sheepshead with family and friends. John certainly loved and enjoyed his canine children, Bubba and BJ.
John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda; his niece, Sara and her family, Jillian and Asia; his special friends, the Andrews family, Derek, Eliza, Shane, David, Jeslyn, Seth and Caleb; and the Prosser family, Jason, Krissy, Olivia, Owen, and Oakley; brother-in-law, Dallas Vandermuse; he is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and too many special friends to list.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Barbara (Leon) Willie and Henry C. (Claudette) Cleereman; and a nephew, Henry C. Cleereman; his mother and father-in-law, Arthur and Donna Vandermuse; Special brother-in-law, Daniel Vandermuse; and a sister-in-law, Carol Vandermuse.
Visitation at First United Church of Christ, 509 S. Webster Ave. Wednesday, May 24, 2023, from 4pm until the time of the memorial prayer service at 5:30pm. Full military honors will follow at the church. Malcore (East) Funeral Home is serving the family.
