Poppy went to be at peace with his life long love on September 24, 2018. He was born and raised in Green Bay to the late Joe & Ruth Lagers. He was a graduate of West High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Elizabeth Grovogel on February 16, 1963. They raised a son, Scott John Lagers and a daughter, Tracie L. Lagers Medrano. He was very close with his favorite son-in-law, Jorge Medrano. He was a passionate Packers fan. So many family pool parties over the years were always a blast at mom & dad’s. He & his family loved all the time spent in Door County, telling stories of the past around the campfire sharing good times, lots of laughs, good food and maybe a few beers. Dad could fix just about anything! “Where’s the duct tape?” he would joke. He was a very hard working man all his life. He retired in 2012 at the age of 70 from RR Donnelly.
He has 3 grandchildren, Justin (Amber) Medrano of Green Bay; Keianna Elizabeth & Leevi Madison of Missouri. Further survived by one beautiful great-granddaughter, Evelyn “Roo” Medrano; many nieces & nephews and some wonderful in-laws.
John was most recently preceded in death by his brother Thomas Lagers; his wife of 53 years, Dianne Lagers & his brother-in-law, Bill Grovogel.
His memory will live on among us as The Stoic Family Rock, THE example of how to face adversity.
Family & friends are invited to visit at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, 701 N. Baird St, Green Bay, on Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A Celebration of John’s Life will follow at 11 a.m.
