Joseph J. Pels, 91, Green Bay, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 9, 2016, at a local hospital. Born Aug. 5, 1924, in Chicago, IL, he is the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Starczeski) Pels, Sr. Joe faithfully served in US Army during WWII. He began a successful pizza business in Worth, IL before starting “Far Away Joe’s” in Green Bay and later Door County with his wife, Pamela. Joe will be remembered for his love of Door County and Big Band Music.
Joe is survived by two children, Daniel and Janet Pels; three step-daughters, Linda, Jennifer and Susan and their spouses; six grandchildren and their spouses, Julia, Steve, Rachel, Brad, Jamie, and Scott; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Bette) Pels; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela.
Visitation at Malcore (West) Funeral Home, 1530 West Mason Street, Monday from 2pm until the time of Full Military Honors at 4pm. Burial will be in Blossomberg Cemetery in Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek.
