LaVerne Rachel (Wery) Vandertie, 90, left this world on October 11, 2016, to join her late husband and daughter in heaven. LaVerne was born April 4, 1926, in rural Luxemburg, WI to Charles and Phoebe (DePas) Wery. She married Harold Vandertie on October 14, 1942, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Duval. LaVerne was a proud and dedicated Catholic woman, taking great pride in attending mass, and as a longtime member of Nativity of Our Lord Woman’s Guild. Though their only daughter Diane passed away as the result of a tragic accident in 1960, LaVerne kept the faith and shared her love with all who crossed her path. She was proud of her 22-years of employment at the H.C. Prange store in Green Bay, and also served many years with the St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary. Harold passed away in March of 2000 after 58 years of marriage at the retirement cabin they so loved in Wausaukee. Even after her losses, LaVerne never gave up. Though she always missed being in the woods and watching the wildlife, she returned to Green Bay. There, her door was always open, as she adored having company, visiting, making meals, tending to her plants, praying the rosary, writing letters, and keeping an immaculate house.
She is survived by one sister, Beverly (Don) Pire; sister-in-law, Mathilda Tebon; nieces and nephews, Rhonda Schneiderman, James (Kelly) Pire, Dawn (Dennis) Thibedeau, and Todd Pire; special Godchild Robin Johnson; and many other great-nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her “special friends” whom she treated like close family all these years: Bruce, Pam, and Kristin Alberts and Mike, Kellie, Bryce, Brent, and Lauren Haines.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane and husband, Harold; brother-in-law, Thomas Kaye; sister and brother-in-law, Macille “Mae” and Arnold Weinke; nieces & nephews, Melanie Pire, Jeanne Paplham, Charles Dachelet, Al Vandertie, Jr., Dale Tebon, and Donald Tebon; parents-in-law, William and Mary Vandertie; brothers and sisters-in-law, William, Jr., Al (Liz), Gabe (Lena), Harris (Laura), Harvey, Rose (Bill) Geise, Louisa (John) Dachelet, and Jule Tebon.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, October 15th at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 2270 S. Oneida Street, Green Bay with visitation from 10:30am until the time of funeral. Funeral Mass 12 noon Saturday at the church with Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Burial in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. Malcore (East) Funeral Home is serving the family.
The family wishes to thank Ashwaubenon Public Safety for coming to LaVerne’s aid and the St. Vincent Hospital staff for their compassion and kindness.
Though we are sad to see her go, we know she has been waiting many years to be re-united with Diane and Harold, and will still be keeping an eye on the rest of us from above.
