Oliver Griese, Sr., 105, of Allouez, passed away peacefully Friday, April 29, 2016 at a local nursing home to start the next phase of his life’s journey. He was born June 21, 1910, Oliver Roy August Griese in Rio Creek, WI to the late Charles and Ida (Lawrenz) Griese. Oliver grew up in Bonduel, WI. He owned and operated Oliver’s Ice Cream (a Packer hangout back in the day) and later owned and operated Oliver’s Restaurant. He was the Treasurer for the Town of Allouez for 12 years. Oliver was an avid Packer Fan. He married Mary Lou Chmela-Vissers on April 9, 1946. She preceded him in death on June 13, 2002. They lived in Allouez for 60 years. He belonged to Faith Lutheran Church.
Oliver is survived by his 10 children, Oliver, Jr (Jennie), Neenah, WI, SuAnne (Jim) Lopata, Chicago, IL, LuAnne Griese, Tuscon, AZ, Judy (Bob) Boncher, New Franken WI, Michael (Tami) Green Bay, WI, Mary Griese, San Mateo, CA, Gregory (Christine), Hudson, WI, Gail (Dave) Carlson, N. Richland Hills, TX, Joanne (Joel) Shefflin, Santa Barbara, CA, and Barbara Griese, Cary ,NC; grandchildren, Tony Knope, Monica Eldredge, Jesse (Renee), Jeremy (Melissa) and Justin Boncher, Jackie Griese, Kendall and Katelyn Carlson, Joey Griese, Ermei and AiYan Shefflin; great grandchildren, Paige and Dakota Eldredge, Kenzie and Kallie Boncher.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian, Clarice and Mildred; and brothers, Walter and Orville.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 PM at Woodside Lutheran Home Chapel, 1040 Pilgrim Way with a prayer service to follow with Pastor Steve Apfel officiating.
