Rene Mellberg, 82, De Pere, passed away January 3, 2025. Born on February 25, 1942 he is the son of the late Emmett and Virginia Mellberg. Out of high school, he played semi-professional football with the Manitowoc Chiefs. He served our country in the United States Army where he was posted in Germany and had the opportunity to bike through Europe. Rene attended the University of Cincinnati where he got his Masters Degree. Rene married Janet Vnuk in 1969, and she preceded him in death. He married Jan (Parmentier) Mellberg on July 20th, 1990, in De Pere and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2014. He worked for Proctor and Gamble as an Electrical Engineer for over 25 years until his retirement. He enjoyed times spent with his wonderful friends at the Adventure Club and the UGA (Unprofessional Golf Association). Jan and Rene lived in The Villages, FL. for many winters and enjoyed traveling with their family to many places.
Survived by his children, Conde "Chip" Haning of Green Bay, Dan (Teri Berg) Haning of Allouez, Peter Mellberg of Allouez, Steve (Erin Hunter) Mellberg of De Pere, and Molly Daanen of De Pere; grandchildren, Dalton, Jack, Grace, Samuel, Hayden, Jameson, and Caitlin; sister, Mary Bohn; nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his brother, Terry; parents; wife Jan; sons, Matthew and Nathan.
A celebration of life will be held for our brother, Nathan, and Rene on January 30, 2025. Details to follow.
